Understanding Recovery of Empathy & Communication

The goal of this study is to observe the brain's process of recovery in the year after a person has experienced a stroke using non-invasive methods of taking pictures of the brain.

Who can participate?

This study is designed for adults who...

  • Had a recent stroke on the right side of their brain
    Speak English fluently
  • It may not be safe to participate if you...

    Have certain other diagnoses that impact your brain
    Have significant difficulty seeing or hearing
    Are pregnant

When do I start?

Participation starts within the first 2 days after stroke

How long will I be followed?

  • Critical Care
  • Stroke Center
  • Discharge

Key activities

You will be asked to...

Participate in communication assessments
Participate in assessments of emotional understanding
Have pictures taken of your brain

You should know...

Participation is your choice and you can stop any time
Participation will not change your routine health care
Activities will occur every few months for the 1st year after stroke
